Chong Wei happy to return to BAM as sparring partner

Datuk Lee Chong Wei, former world No. 1 badminton player, has expressed his willingness to return to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in a non-coaching capacity. He is open to becoming a sparring partner for players training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM). Lee, a three-time Olympic silver medallist, stated that he hasn't forgotten the support he received from BAM throughout his career and sees this as a way to give back.

The idea was proposed by ABM coaching director Rexy Mainaky, and Lee immediately agreed. He highlighted that he had previously played with former national doubles pair Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, and believes that his presence could inspire and motivate current national players. Lee is open to sharing his experiences and participating in training sessions to benefit the players. However, he emphasized that the frequency of his involvement will be determined by the coaches to avoid interfering with the training program structure. Videos have been uploaded showing Lee and others sparring with current national players, including doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and singles player Ng Tze Yong. The national players are currently preparing for the upcoming season, with the Malaysian Open scheduled from January 9 to January 14 being their first major assignment.
